People Do Not Like to Be Sold
Search Engine Marketing and Traditional Media
One fact remains true, more and more each day. People do not like to be sold and have developed filters against commercials.
Nearly 70 years, Newspapers, TV and Radio have dominated advertising realm. The tactic is honed, practiced and perfected. Shoot at crowds and try to capture those who might be interested. It’s been the only way to let the world know about your business. Blasting through people who are in many cases – not interested. It works, but…
It has reached the climax.
5 Minute commercial breaks on TV and radio. 2 page adverts in newspapers. Magazine pages stuffed with nothing but advertisements. Fake Editorial Reviews. Billboards size of buildings. Commercial messages on products people buy, asking to buy more. Direct mail. Telemarketing, email spam and on it goes…..
People aren’t receptive anymore. They do not want to hear another pitch or another advert.
If you come from marketing and genuinely believe that traditional marketing is simply letting people know about the product, we won’t argue with you. However, if observed carefully this is the picture that unveils all around us. According to Forrester Research average consumers are targeted with more than 3000+ ads per day. Little attention span and general disinterest is quite natural.
If too many people use something that works, it looses it’s value and effectiveness. This is what we’re observing right now. TV, newspapers, magazines, billboards, direct mail are loosing value at high speed. People are too accustomed to being sold and close themselves to it.
As its effectiveness goes down, so does the value of your hard earned invested money.
