You search for the recipe in Google by the English name of the dish, and the search engine translates your query into Standard Mandarin, performs the search and finds some recipes in that language, and returns those pages to you with an option to translate them into English.

Remove Harmful Site Label from Your Website on Google Search Results

Sometimes Google marks websites which are harmful on search results to prevent users from getting spy ware, viruses and other malware. If you were labeled as “dangerous” by accident or for a reason, you can remove the label by following the steps:

  • Clean up your site / server of all malware. If you don’t think there are any, run a scan to be sure.
  • Next, go to webmaster tools and request a review (explaining the details).
  • It will take anywhere from few hours to few days to review the website and get back to you.

Webmasters are eager to have a Google malware label removed from their site and often ask how long a review of the site will take. Both the original scanning and the review process are fully automated. The systems analyze large portions of the internet, which is big place, so the review may not happen immediately. Ideally, the label will be removed within a few hours. At its longest, the process should take a day or so. - SEO Roundtable

Website will not get blacklisted for poor quality score

Search Engine Roundtable reports a thread on the topic of getting blacklisted from Adwords for poor quality score. The thread proves this theory to be a myth with official Google representatives explaining that it does not happen.

Indeed, Google is in the business of making money from ads, and by blacklisting advertisers it will be cutting the branch on which its sitting.

Low quality ads are pushed way below the fold, but they still get the exposure.

Adobe and Yahoo Stop PDF ads Program

Amit Agarwal reports that Yahoo and Adobe have decided to discontinue the Ads for PDF product they launched in November 2007. An email sent to current participants of the program blamed the economic conditions for the failure of the program. The email said the program was discontinued due to “reassessment of priorities in the current economic environment.” If you currently have ads in PDFs, the ads will continue to run through March 31st, and then stop working beyond that point. - Search Engine Land

Though economic conditions were the official cause, the real one is probably due to the failure of the program itself, which failed to generate revenue for Adobe, Yahoo and publishers. This could be due to several factors:

  • Yahoo’s content network is not relevant enough
  • Not many people click on advertiser links
  • Not enough publishers participated in the program

Carol Bartz’s Gut Doesn’t Want To Sell Yahoo Search to Microsoft

Ms. Bartz said in a company-wide Yahoo meeting Wednesday that she plans to spend a lot of time investigating whether to sell Yahoo’s search business but that her “gut” was not to do that, according to people familiar with the meeting. - WSJ

New Yahoo CEO, Ms. Bartz does not feel right about selling Yahoo search business to Microsoft and she is 100% right. What will Yahoo be without the search business? An email and content platform, like AOL, which is struggling and is dependant on Google for revenue.

The sale only makes sense if Microsoft buys all of Yahoo. This way Microsoft money arm can be used to ante all Yahoo products and services. I personally think Bartz / Yahoo board will be very foolish to sell Yahoo search business alone.

Microsoft Reconsiders Search Brand

Search Engine Land reports that Microsoft considering to rebrand their search product.

New brand for Live Search? The Seattle PI discusses the potential rebranding of Microsoft’s online services. This is a very long-standing issue. There’s Microsoft, Live and MSN. At one point it appeared that all the online services would migrate to Live and MSN would be killed, but that didn’t happen. The company recently trademarked Kumo but it’s not clear whether and exactly how it will be used.

Microsoft has 3  brands, Live, MSN and Microsoft, with Live being the latest and the least known brand, MSN known as the online portal and Microsoft being the most widely spread. Danny Sullivan suggested Microsoft, drop Live alltogether and just feature the search Google style on Microsoft.com domain. I agree, since the address is well known, just as the brand. They should keep the MSN as a portal and kill Live from all the brands.

We`ll wait to see what Microsoft does.

Yahoo’s Search Ad Share Drops 36%

Silicon Alley Insider reports Yahoo’s search ad share have dropped 36% in the fourth quarter of 2008. The numbers come from AdGooroo that claims Yahoo’s search ad share was 30.4% in September, then dropped in 23.7% in October, then to 20.4% in November and then to 19.4% in December. Meanwhile, Microsoft grew from 12% in October to 16.4% in December. - Search Engine Land

Yahoo is in obvious decline and soon there will no Yahoo, but Microhoo vs Google. Yahoo search share are declining almost each month, it`s advertiser shares are declinding as well. Micorosoft has not moved an inch in getting more market share and is confusing everyone with their MSN - Live - Micorosoft brands.

Companies need each other like a drowning puppy needs air.  Both are going down in Google`s wrath unless they combine and put up a good fight. The sooner the better. The longer Microsoft delays, the more time Google has to strike Microsoft on software and OS fronts. Act now or die.

Firefox Drops Google in Russia

Mozilla’s General Counsel, Harvey Anderson, announced the Russian builds of Firefox 3.1 will drop Google for Yandex. He explained that after months of research and surveys, Mozilla learned that their “Russian users really wanted direct access to the Yandex search.” So in the next build of Firefox, the default search provider will be Yandex for Russian users.  - Search Engine Land

Yandex is biggest Google competitor in Russia and the deal between Firefox and Yandex signifies that Google must keep its cash flowing into Mozilla foundation in order to keep owing its search box. It’s not clear if Yandex paid Mozilla, but logic tells there was more to this move. Here are some of my thoughts:

  1. Mozilla is really pushing user experience to the next level and doing everything in it’s power to satisfy users and win more market share.
  2. Mozilla is playing tease games between search engines and is telling search giants that it sells market share to the highest bidder.

Yandex is #1 Russian search engine, and I am inclined to think that Mozilla is going after Microsoft first and cash second, but we’ll never know of cash transactions unless publicly admitted.

Getting into business and selecting target markets

Going into business on your own.

Search engine optimization knowledge is enough to start online business and make few hundred bucks a week from the start. As you progress it is also possible to accumulate great capital and supply yourself with very comfortable living.

Don’t get elusive though, first several months will not be crowned with success, but rather low earning projects and burned ideas. As you gain experience, understand markets betters and get a feel for the game, real opportunities will present themselves. When you are ready - you will see it.

In this article we aim to show ways to get started online with search engine optimization knowledge.

Monetizing Your Passion

Nothing is more fun than doing what you love and getting paid for it. Brainstorm and write down topics of particular interest and then explore monetization models for each.

Google Adsense - get paid every time users click on an ad. This is the most popular site monetization model, but it doesn’t earn much (on a single website). Advertisements are automatically driven by contextual relevancy. Layout can be custom matched to website color scheme. Earnings rise as visitor traffic rises (more users click on ads), thus increasing search engine rankings directly impacts profits.

Other Contextual Networks - Yahoo Publisher Network, Vibrant Media, Kontera, Look Smart and others. These networks are less relevant and are at least 1/3 size of Adsense, meaning there’s less competition with lower bids than on Google.

Affiliate Programs - there are several types of affiliate programs.
