Google Q1 Revenues Are Up Again Slightly.

Google has released their revenues, and they are up again from the same quarter as last year but not down from Q4 2008.

The search engine said that while revenues dropped by three per cent to $5.51 billion (£3.7 billion) compared with the final three months of 2008, they were up six per cent year on year.

Net income for the first quarter amounted to $1.42 billion (£958 million), compared with $382 million (£257.9 million) for the previous quarter.

Revenues from Google’s own sites rose by nine per cent to $3.7 billion (£2.5 billion) over the first quarter of 2008 and fell three per cent when compared with the fourth quarter of 2008. Google’s partner sites saw sales of $1.64 billion (£1.1 billion) through AdSense. http://www.iabuk.net/en/1/googleprofitsupinq1170409.mxs

The Politics and the Internet

First thing I love internet for is the 100% free flow of information. No filters, no censorship, no worries about loosing advertisers - just plain facts, chatter and made up fantasies - uncensored.

Internet has taught me a lot, as I rely on it for most of the information I get, and I rely on it completely when it comes to news and politics. Not the online version of BBC or FOX news, but raw sites and blogs run by angry journalists who had to keep their mouth shut while working for the corporate machines. The chains are broken… no managers or CEO will threaten to fire you if you say the “wrong” stuff… just spill the shit.

Lets look at just how much people search for political content on the internet.

FTC To Clamp Down On Social Media Marketing

FTC is planning to regulate social media marketing. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? SEO Book discusses.

From my point of view government, FTC and other agencies should get their hands into anything, since centralization allows few to direct and control the flow of the industry. There are of course benefits, but look at the cellular and aviation industries, whose progress is stopped largely due to insane fees proposed by federal agencies on any new technology. Got a flying car that uses air or fuel? FU - pay 10 billion and we’ll talk to you. Got technology that allows internet to be 100 times faster - FU pay 20 billion and we will talk.

In a nutshell a federal agency is a way for corporations and individuals to keep a stranglehold on an industry. Believe when you hear we would have flying cars on water fuel right now.

F off FTC.

Yahoo Shutting Down Jumpcut Video Service

Here’s a quote from search engine land:

More than just a video upload-and-watch site, Jumpcut allowed users to share videos and photos, creating essentially a library of “stock” clips and images that any user could include in his/her own videos. It also offered online video creation and editing tools. Jumpcut was a somewhat novel concept that apparently didn’t catch on enough — at least not enough to survive CEO Carol Bartz’s promise to reorganize and refocus the company.

My question is: What the hell is Jumpcut?

No wonder it is being cut off by Carol. Just an additional expense in terms of server space, staff and bandwidth, My guess is the traffic stats were too low to be of any value to the company.

Bye Bye Jumpcut, you wont be missed. LOL.

Google Adds a Webcam View to Some Locations

Google Maps and Google Earth are evolving faster than any competitors. The new feature is the web cam layer:

To check it for yourself, just go here. Original article on search engine land.

Google Is Killing Competition

Google has taken leadership from Map Quest in terms of usage, and is putting more and more features under the hood. The Google Earth itself is so packed with widgets and features - it is a scary if you turn all of them. I think Google is going to bite off entire tech savvy audience from Map Quest (if not already), leaving the “loyal” customers.

The “loyal” seems to be at the center of Map Quest strategy, but people are loyal for as long as you’re the best. When there’s a better player on the scene, the loyalty can shift quickly. I personally think they are making a huge mistake and should change their strategy to innovation and market acquisition, otherwise they will be left with old people, who are truly loyal because they never heard of Google.
