List of Link Building Tools

Over the last year a number of high quality link building has become available on the SEO scene. Here’s a list of the best ones:

Majestic SEO

Majestic SEO started as a project to build open source, community run search engine. Participants in the project can download a crawler, and set it to spider the web. The information is then sent to Majestic 12 servers.

The search engine itself is far from completion and in order to raise money, Majestic 12 group decided to sell link intelligence to SEO’s. By entering a domain name and paying a little you can get a detailed link profile for any website.

Link Scape

Link Scape if the brainchild of Rand Fishkin from SEO Moz. The tool crawls the web, takes in data from Yahoo and other third party providers in order to show backlinks profile for any website.

Link Harvester

Link Harvester is a Tool from Aaron Wall that collects link data from Yahoo and MSN. It can get pretty laggy since search engines block queries that look like automated requests.

FTC To Clamp Down On Social Media Marketing

FTC is planning to regulate social media marketing. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? SEO Book discusses.

From my point of view government, FTC and other agencies should get their hands into anything, since centralization allows few to direct and control the flow of the industry. There are of course benefits, but look at the cellular and aviation industries, whose progress is stopped largely due to insane fees proposed by federal agencies on any new technology. Got a flying car that uses air or fuel? FU - pay 10 billion and we’ll talk to you. Got technology that allows internet to be 100 times faster - FU pay 20 billion and we will talk.

In a nutshell a federal agency is a way for corporations and individuals to keep a stranglehold on an industry. Believe when you hear we would have flying cars on water fuel right now.

F off FTC.

Conservative State Legislator Wants To Limit Info On Maps To Block Terrorists

Citing the Mumbai terrorists’ statement that they used Google Maps as a planning tool, a conservative California legislator (from El Cajon) has introduced a bill which would “not allow online mapping tools from companies like Google Inc. to provide aerial or satellite images of schools, places of worship, government buildings and medical facilities unless they have been blurred.” http://searchengineland.com/conservative-state-legislator-wants-to-limit-info-on-maps-to-limit-terrorists-tools-16835

The “terrorist” fairlytale is used to scare the unwary public into submission to draconian laws. loos of liberty, war and gradual decline of the state into facsism. Since 9/11 US has literally lost consitution. Under Patriot Act and Military Commissions Act any person on the US soil can be arrested and sent to prison, without reason simply under suspicion of terrorism. State decides who is a suspect wihtout any evidence.

The Google Brand Update

Last week Google has rolled out a new update giving free boost to big brands for core terms such as: “car insurance”, “airline tickets” etc. Google’s Matt Cutts refused to admit there was an update, but facts show otherwise. There is a lot of noise on the internet with a lot of gurus denying the update, but it is obvious something happened.

Google to Search Websites in Foreign Languages

SEO by the sea reports that Google filed a patent that will allow it to translate your query into another language, search foreign websites and return foreign search results with an option to translate.

Automatic Expanded Language Search

You search for the recipe in Google by the English name of the dish, and the search engine translates your query into Standard Mandarin, performs the search and finds some recipes in that language, and returns those pages to you with an option to translate them into English.

Remove Harmful Site Label from Your Website on Google Search Results

Sometimes Google marks websites which are harmful on search results to prevent users from getting spy ware, viruses and other malware. If you were labeled as “dangerous” by accident or for a reason, you can remove the label by following the steps:

  • Clean up your site / server of all malware. If you don’t think there are any, run a scan to be sure.
  • Next, go to webmaster tools and request a review (explaining the details).
  • It will take anywhere from few hours to few days to review the website and get back to you.

Webmasters are eager to have a Google malware label removed from their site and often ask how long a review of the site will take. Both the original scanning and the review process are fully automated. The systems analyze large portions of the internet, which is big place, so the review may not happen immediately. Ideally, the label will be removed within a few hours. At its longest, the process should take a day or so. - SEO Roundtable

Website will not get blacklisted for poor quality score

Search Engine Roundtable reports a thread on the topic of getting blacklisted from Adwords for poor quality score. The thread proves this theory to be a myth with official Google representatives explaining that it does not happen.

Indeed, Google is in the business of making money from ads, and by blacklisting advertisers it will be cutting the branch on which its sitting.

Low quality ads are pushed way below the fold, but they still get the exposure.

Microsoft Reconsiders Search Brand

Search Engine Land reports that Microsoft considering to rebrand their search product.

New brand for Live Search? The Seattle PI discusses the potential rebranding of Microsoft’s online services. This is a very long-standing issue. There’s Microsoft, Live and MSN. At one point it appeared that all the online services would migrate to Live and MSN would be killed, but that didn’t happen. The company recently trademarked Kumo but it’s not clear whether and exactly how it will be used.

Microsoft has 3  brands, Live, MSN and Microsoft, with Live being the latest and the least known brand, MSN known as the online portal and Microsoft being the most widely spread. Danny Sullivan suggested Microsoft, drop Live alltogether and just feature the search Google style on Microsoft.com domain. I agree, since the address is well known, just as the brand. They should keep the MSN as a portal and kill Live from all the brands.

We`ll wait to see what Microsoft does.
